The Archipelago and the Hornslandet Peninsula
The archipelago around Hudiksvall is widely thought to be one of the most beautiful along the coast of Northern Sweden. History reveals that the inhabitants of this coastline have mainly lived off the sea. At the turn of the century, there were more than 50 fishing villages and harbours in the Hudiksvall archipelago. Today, only a few full-time fishermen are left, and the fishing villages only really come to life during the summer months.
In the northern part of the archipelago, the
Hornslandet peninsula protrudes into the sea like a giant breakwater. It is a wonderful place to discover - perfect for a range of open-air activities. There are two fishing villages on the peninsula -
Hölick and Kuggörarna. You can bathe in the sea, fish in excellent waters, enjoy a variety of walks or visit an ancient cave.
It is also a naturalist's paradise with many unique species of flora and fauna. Several areas now come under the protection of nature reserves.
